Those going to the beach this week are advised to stay out of the water because all Los Angeles County beaches are under a bacteria advisory due to excessive rainfall.
The advisory was issued on Tuesday and will remain in effect until Friday, December 30 at 4:30 p.m.
Due to increased levels of "chemicals, debris, trash, and other public health hazards from city streets and mountain areas likely to contaminate ocean waters at and around discharging storm drains, creeks, and rivers," the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health advises the public to stay out of the water.
Officials have warned that people who swim in the ocean during this time may become ill.
People with weakened immune systems, children, and the elderly are especially vulnerable.
Beach-goers should avoid contact with ocean water for at least three days after significant rainfall, according to the Department of Public Health.
Officials said the current beach advisory for Los Angeles County could be extended if there is more rain.
